Children’s creativity will be in high gear as they transform used materials into beautiful artwork and fashions. Children will be introduced to collage, found object sculpture, printmaking, paper making, papier mâché, fabric dyeing and fabric painting in this weeklong exploration of re-use and upcycling as art.

A fascinating exploration of collage. We will warm up by touching briefly on the history of the artform by looking at “papier colle” created by Picasso, Braques, Gris, Matisse, Schwitters, Hoch and more. Then we will pick up scissors and glue to create our own layered compositions using salvaged books, painted papers, photographs, magazines, etc.

Join mixed media artist, Annie Bell, for a colorful, textural, fun session of collage and mixed media artmaking!
Annie will introduce kids to multiple collage techniques, a.k.a. "painting with paper and glue" which will be sure to inspire and amuse.
All materials are provided and kids can feel good about prolific artmaking as all materials are recycled & locally sourced.

This will be an enjoyable, informative and comprehensive introduction to papier collier (analogue collage). Starting with the history of collage, we'll look at its evolution as an art form and the diversity of techniques used by artists from the past and present. There will be a brief demo of 3 simple, non-toxic, adhesive processes followed by creative work time.

Students will experiment with the incorporation of a wide range of media (watercolor, pastel, color pencil, ink, acrylic, etc.) into their paper collages. Our slideshow will branch into mixed media highlighting collage and mixed media work by Picasso, Braque, Gris, Matisse, Schwitters and Letscher. Demonstrations will include the use of acrylic gels and non-toxic image transfer techniques.

Decoupage comes from the French word "decouper" meaning to cut out and refers to the decoration of an object (i.e. a piece of furniture, wooden trunk or box, tray, etc.) by collaging onto the object's surface. We will look at examples of traditional decoupage from as far back as the 12th century, then will follow its evolutions into the modern artworld. There will be a demo of a non-toxic method for decoupage.
